Connection & setup · Bird Buddy
Connect Bird Buddy to Wi-Fi.
Pair in the app, choose the right Wi-Fi band and test before mounting.
The quick answer
Start in the Birdbuddy app. Bluetooth is used for setup, then the camera joins Wi-Fi. Check your exact model's supported band before trying to change the router.
Applies to Birdbuddy's current in-app flow. Network-band requirements are model-specific: Nature Cam, Home and Nook are distinguished below.
Check the model's Wi-Fi requirements
The current official connectivity page lists Nature Cam and Nook on 2.4GHz, and Home on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz. It lists WPA2 network security. A blanket “every Bird Buddy is 2.4GHz-only” instruction would therefore miss a model difference.
Birdbuddy's older Wi-Fi troubleshooting page gives general 2.4GHz advice. Use the model-specific connectivity page to resolve that difference. If your product has another name, confirm its requirement in the current manual rather than inferring it from a similar feeder.
Write down the intended network name and model before starting. You can then distinguish an invisible network from an incorrect password or a later connection failure.

Follow the in-app pairing flow
- Charge the device using its model instructions. Sign in to the Birdbuddy app.
- Open Cameras and choose Add a Birdbuddy or the plus control. Select the matching device.
- Allow the requested Bluetooth access and any location permission needed by your phone's operating system. Accept the pairing prompt in the app flow.
- Select the intended Wi-Fi network and enter its password.
- Keep the setup screen open while connection completes; the official flow allows up to five minutes.
- Use the offered live-stream test to confirm the connection before installing the feeder outside.
Start pairing in the app, rather than adding the camera manually in the phone's Bluetooth settings. Bluetooth setup success is one stage; Wi-Fi connection still has to complete.

Find the stage where setup stops
- The app cannot find the camera
- Revisit the selected model and the app's requested Bluetooth permissions. Note the light pattern and the exact screen.
- The camera is found, but the network is missing
- Compare the network band with the model's requirements. The Wi-Fi troubleshooting guide also says the network name must be visible.
- The password is accepted, but connection fails
- Retry close to the router. Birdbuddy suggests a compatible guest or IoT network, or a temporary hotspot comparison, when investigating router compatibility.
Use those as separate tests. Record the outcome before making another network change. If the app provides an error message, save its wording rather than only the progress percentage.

Test again at the feeder location
A successful setup beside the router is your starting point. Move the correctly assembled feeder to its intended position and repeat the live-stream check. Compare the app's connection status as well.
If the camera works indoors but fails outside, bring that comparison to your router provider or Birdbuddy support. If an already paired device is now offline, use the offline guide before starting setup again.
What to include in a support request
Prepare the exact feeder model, phone operating system, app version, router model, network band and the setup stage that fails. Include the near-router result and whether another compatible network was tested.
Do not include your Wi-Fi password in a public post or screenshot. Use the official support channel linked below for account and device questions. A clear description of the failed stage helps support choose the next test without repeating the entire setup.
