Bird Buddy not charging?

Work out whether the battery is not charging or the app is showing an old status.

The quick answer

Test wired charging first, then check the camera and app separately. An offline app reading or a missing light on an unpaired camera does not, by itself, prove the battery has failed.

Applies to Original Birdbuddy / Nature Cam Pro camera modules. Home and Nook use an external battery design; follow their model instructions.

Start with the battery design

Identify your camera generation first. The original module / Nature Cam Pro and external-battery models need different instructions.

For a useful before-and-after comparison, write down the battery reading, whether the camera is online, the charging equipment and the time. Change one item at a time. That record is more informative than several cable swaps followed by a single app screenshot.

Test the cable and wired charging

  1. Bring the device to a dry indoor surface and identify its charging port from the manual.
  2. Use a reputable USB-C charger and USB-C to USB-C cable, as recommended by Birdbuddy. Check the port for debris or visible damage; do not force the connector.
  3. If possible, test the cable and adapter with another compatible device. Then retry with a known working set.
  4. Allow a few hours of uninterrupted charging on a hard, flat surface. Record which equipment you used.

A new, unpaired camera may not show the usual charging LEDs. Birdbuddy recommends attempting its in-app setup even when those lights are absent. A light alone is therefore a poor pass/fail test.

Separate power from communication

After the wired test, check both the physical camera and its refreshed app status. If the camera responds but the app still says offline, continue with our Bird Buddy offline guide. Repeated charging may leave a connection issue unresolved.

Our suggested check is to compare the battery percentage only after confirming that the camera has reconnected. Include the status and time beside each reading so that an old screenshot is not mistaken for a new result.

If wired charging works but solar does not

Keep the successful wired test as your baseline. Compare solar performance separately: note the panel connection, shade during the day and whether the app reports charging in direct sun. The manufacturer explains that solar contribution varies with sunlight, temperature and camera activity; it does not promise unlimited runtime in every location.

Our suggested test is to record the starting percentage and time, leave the normal camera settings unchanged and compare later under similar conditions. This can help you describe the symptom without guessing that the panel or battery is defective.

Confirm the result and get help

Check that the camera can reconnect and open a live stream after charging. Save a screenshot with the current time. If wired charging still produces no usable response with known working equipment, use Birdbuddy's official Help & Support chat.

Prepare your exact model, serial number, purchase date, cable and adapter details, elapsed charging time and the camera's light behavior. A short test log lets support see what has already been ruled out.
