The quick answer

For the feeder models covered here, connect your phone to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and choose the exact camera in the Birdfy app. QR-code setup works differently from Bluetooth discovery; use the method documented for your device.

Applies to Birdfy Feeder and Feeder 2 Series as covered by the linked product instructions. Other Birdfy products need their own setup flow.

Prepare the camera and network

Charge the camera first, sign in to the Birdfy app and bring the camera near the router for setup. The Feeder and Feeder 2 Series product instructions both specify a 2.4GHz network for the phone during pairing.

Keep the intended network name and password ready. Our recommended baseline is to complete an indoor setup and live-view test before choosing the permanent feeder position.

Select the actual product in Add Device. Feeder 2 Series asks whether you have Cam 2, Cam 2 Pro or both. A similar-looking feeder in the app is not a substitute for that choice.

Pair using the QR-code method

  1. Tap the plus control in the app and choose the matching feeder and camera.
  2. Scan the camera's device QR code, then enter the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi details.
  3. For these documented models, hold the power button for three seconds, then double press it to enter pairing mode. The blue light should flash.
  4. Show the QR code displayed on the phone to the camera lens. The product guides specify a distance of 2–6 inches (5–15cm).
  5. Wait for the camera to scan the code and for the app to complete the connection. Follow the remaining naming and location prompts.

The printed code identifies the device to the app; the phone's displayed code passes setup information to the camera. Check which direction the current step expects.

Use Bluetooth only where supported

The Birdfy Feeder guide includes Bluetooth pairing but notes that older versions may not support it. The cited Feeder 2 Series setup page uses QR-code pairing. If the app does not find a camera through Bluetooth, first verify that this method is supported.

Record the app's device selection and the method used. This is particularly useful when a generic tutorial refers to a different generation of feeder.

Check the exact failure point

If the camera will not scan the phone's code, the product guides recommend removing any lens film, increasing screen brightness and adjusting the distance. If the code scans but setup stalls, check the Wi-Fi password, 2.4GHz band and signal.

Test one change at a time and note whether the light or app screen changes. If the camera never enters the documented pairing mode, follow the reboot guide for your model, then retry the intended setup flow.

Check live view before and after mounting

Open live view after pairing, then repeat at the intended outdoor location. Record whether the device stays online in both positions. A reliable indoor result followed by an outdoor failure points you toward investigating placement and network coverage.

If pairing still fails near the router, contact Birdfy support with the exact model, firmware if visible, router model, selected app device, pairing method and error screenshot. If live view works but no new clips arrive, continue with Moments troubleshooting instead of repeating Wi-Fi setup.
